2017 Bentley Bentayga Launches New Luxury SUV Era

A New Era Begins

At last year’s Frankfurt Motorshow, Bentley introduced its groundbreaking vision of the world’s fastest and most luxurious SUV, the Bentayga. Calling it, “A true showcase of British modern luxury,” Wolfgang Düerheimer, Chairman and Chief Executive of Bentley Motors, stated that “Bentley Bentayga will be the benchmark against all other SUVs are measured, defining a new segment – the luxury SUV.”

“Owners will enjoy spending time with friends and family in the most luxurious and refined SUV wherever in the world their journey takes them,” he added.

Four years in the making, the first production Bentayga rolled off the marque’s Crew assembly line last November after 130 hours of painstaking hand-crafted assembly. The automaker pointed to its new body store, new paint shop and new assembly line which are part of Bentley’s £840 million investment in new manufacturing facilities generating more than 1,500 new jobs in the UK. The Bentayga is also the first to join Bentley’s world-famous Heritage Collection.

The UK’s Prime Minister, Mr. David Cameron, joined in the praise for the new Bentayga, commenting: “I am delighted that the first Bentley Bentayga has rolled off the production line in Crewe. It marks the culmination of a period of exceptionally hard work by Bentley and its dedicated workforce as they brought this remarkable new vehicle to market…”Well done to all at Bentley. This is a moment of great pride for everyone who lives and works in Crewe.”

Michael Straughan, Bentley’s Member of the Board for Manufacturing, addressed the company’s 4,000-strong workforce as the car was driven from the final production stage. Straughan explained the detail and quality the all-new Bentayga represents, stating:

“This is a proud moment for the entire company. It’s been four years in the making and is a celebration of a sector-defining British handcrafted car.”

“Bentayga is the Bentley of SUVs, with a level of attention to detail only achievable thanks to the outstanding skill of a British workforce that blends exceptional craft and skill with modern production techniques and materials.”

A Crowning Automotive Achievement

Every Inch A Bentley

The outward appearance of the new 2017 Bentley Bentayga for sale in West Palm Beach at Bentley Palm Beach pays homage to the marque’s 95-year history of crafting exquisitely beautiful and impeccably refined examples of automotive art. Unmistakably a Bentley from every angle, every subtle crease, and every detail, the new Bentayga affords a familiar, yet altogether refreshing, countenance. Notably, the new Bentayga is the first Bentley to wear optional 22-inch fully-forged and machined aluminum wheels that are the largest ever created for a Bentley.

According to Angus Mackenzie of MotorTrend Magazine, “Exterior designer Sang Yup Lee has given the Bentayga’s body side a strong character line running back from a B-themed front vent, and a hint of a Continental-style haunch over the rear wheel. The body side stamping, which includes the one-piece rear quarter panel and the door apertures, is the largest, deepest draw aluminum pressing in the world. At the rear are taillights that reprise the B-theme, and two large exhaust outlets.”

Don Sherman, Editor of Car And Driver Magazine, intones “Bentleys have always been imposing, but the Bentayga towers over its surroundings in a way none has before. At 68.6 inches tall, it’s nearly nine inches loftier than any other Bentley…”

“The Bentayga is essentially Continental and Flying Spur sculpture retailored in big-and-tall size,” Sherman explains. “A face dominated by wide eyes and hungry grilles signals the hoi polloi to step aside. Sweeping side creases and prominent rear haunches showcase wheels ranging from 20 to 22 inches in diameter. The roof arch and a hatch, angled more steeply than the windshield, express Bentayga’s bent for speed. And Lee’s painstaking attention to detail is evident in the body-colored running-lamp pupils concealing the headlamp washers, the subtle front-fender creases achievable only by hot stamping, and side vents accented with B logos.”

The Finest Craftsmanship & Materials

The new Bentayga’s luxuriant interior takes the concept of a refined ultra-luxe SUV environment to an entirely new dimension of superlative, hand-crafted execution. One example of Bentley’s painstaking and meticulous attention to the very smallest detail is the optional Mulliner Tourbillon timepiece by Breitling. Trimmed with diamond markers and embedded in the dash, the timepiece can be ordered with one of three gold trims and either ebony of mother-of-pearl facing. Exotic wood veneers are hand selected, cut and matched to high-gloss perfection. Another unique aspect of the Bentayga is its patented, leather-trimmed Event Seat that slides out from the rear cargo compartment. Use it to enjoy events shaded by the tailgate. It then slides away unobtrusively and can be used as a convenient luggage divider.

Motor Trend’s Angus MacKenzie says, “The interior, designed by Darren Day, is beautifully executed, and rich in signature Bentley cues such as quilted leather and knurled metal. The dash fascia combines design themes from both Continental and Mulsanne, and the latest iterations of familiar Bentley instruments and switchgear. The attention to detail is impressive, from the ultra-thin chrome surrounds for the switchgear that are carefully placed to sit within 0.1 mm of the wood veneers, to the etched covers for the sound system speakers that look like woven metal. Four- and five-seat versions of the car will be offered, along with a choice of nine wood veneers.”

The Art Of Personalization

You can also define the artistry of the Bentayga by choosing from more than 90 different colors and a variety of complementary interior designs for the ultimate in personalization. But for the ultimate expression of the coachbuilder’s art the craftsmen at Bentley’s Mulliner coachworks employ their distinctive touch to create a bespoke interior environment. Called the Mulliner Driving Specification, it features iconic quilting on the seats and doors, drilled sports pedals, and a unique Jewel Filler Cap adding Mulliner’s legendary sporting heritage to what is already an extraordinary vehicle.

Unbridled W12 Power Meets Unbelievable Off-Road Capabilities

Debuting in the Bentayga is an all-new W12 gasoline engine with Variable Displacement that takes its place as the most technologically advanced W12 engine in the world. It combines both direct-injection and port-injection technologies to deliver unmatched speed and power. It propels the Bentayga from 0 to 60 in 4.0 seconds with a top speed of 187 mph, making the Bentayga the fastest production SUV in the world.

“The new W-12 delivers an effortless, endless surge of acceleration the moment you squeeze the gas pedal. You have the option to shift the eight-speed automatic transmission manually via the steering wheel-mounted paddles, but there’s really no point as there’s always an abundance of torque when you want it. On the freeway the Bentayga feels stupid fast, barreling past 100 mph like a freight train. Drive Dynamics Mode lets you tackle the world’s most challenging environments with supreme confidence. Choose between Comfort, Sport, Custom, and Bentley settings to dial in the perfect driving mode for optimized performance and handling. It also features Active Roll Control that automatically adjusts individual wheel control in response to different surface conditions. The Bentayga’s gauges offer data on altitude, roll, pitch, steering angle, and direction.
