New Flying Spur | Retractable Hood Ornament | Bentley Palm Beach

The Flying Spur is one of the oldest members of the Bentley family (second only to the stately Mulsanne). An icon of the road, this model is being reimagined for the 21st century. It will retain all the elegance and luxury we expect from the legendary brand – with new touches designed to captivate and enthrall owners. The retractable hood ornament is one particularly buzzworthy addition.

Anticipating the New Flying Spur

While details remain scarce about the new Flying Spur, we already see a more chiseled, athletic body – which is a feat for a “four door Grand Tourer” that measures over 17 feet long, 77.8 inches wide, and weighs more than 5400 pounds (that’s about a ton heavier than the MINI Cooper, if you’re wondering!). Still, the Flying Spur earns its name: it flies at speeds of up to 200 mph, thanks to its 616 hp-producing W12.

It’s expected that the new model will be all wheel drive and have an eight speed automatic transmission. Likely a V8 and hybrid version will join the line at some point in the future as well.

Bentley is stingy with information on the interior and exterior updates and the power behind the new Flying Spur, but they are highlighting its retractable hood ornament in promotional materials. And it is certainly something! On the practical side, retractable means harder to steal – certainly a consideration for owners of this $190,000+ motorcar.

On the aesthetic side, it’s a head-turner. Hood ornaments have largely gone the way of the dodo bird, but for ultra-luxury brands like Bentley, they are still a prized feature. Bentley updates theirs with more sleek, dynamic lines as opposed to pointier, edgier ornaments of the past.

As more details emerge, we’ll be sure to share them with you. Right now, Bentley has stated that the global review of the all-new, third generation Flying Spur Grand Touring Sedan will take place at 11:00 BST on Tuesday, June 11. As always, feel free to visit the experts at Bentley Palm Beach to learn more about the new Flying Spur and any other Bentley models that compel your attention.
