Bentley has had several phenomenal years, but it is not resting on its laurels. Last year, it had a 31 percent jump in sales with a record of 14,659 luxury vehicles sold globally.  It has now committed nearly $3.3 billion towards sustainability investments over the next decade. These investments are primarily dedicated to the production of Bentley EVs.

PRODUCTION OF BENTLEY ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Bentley has already established superb customer experiences, unique craftsmanship of its vehicles, and now it is planning to enhance the electrical experience in the world of luxury car manufacture.

The company has already secured a production site in the UK for the first-ever battery-powered Bentley EVs, which will be built on Volkswagen’s Artemis electric vehicle platform. It is expected that the first Bentley electric vehicle will be built at its Crewe plant, which is modern, well established, and has over 4,000 dedicated well-trained employees.

It is anticipated that the first Bentley electric will be produced around 2025, and within the next five years, Bentley will be offering EVs as standard. So far, Bentley has been tightlipped about the electric vehicles that will be produced in 2025. The company is currently offering a plug-in hybrid version of its Bentayga SUV ($160K) and the Flying Spur ($208K).

BATTERIES, VEHICLE SIZE, AND WEIGHT

The biggest issue facing Bentley’s quest towards all Bentley EVs is the weight. Bentleys are big cars, very heavy, powerful, and will therefore require a very powerful battery. At the moment, the current lithium batteries occupy a large space. Bentley is hoping that with rapid evolution in battery power density, the battery size will decrease and make them lighter but still leave them just as powerful. From recent experience, it appears that a Bentley powered by a lithium battery may be just what is needed. They are quiet, offer refined performance, are effortless to drive, and are easy to maintain. Unlike Jaguar, which designed its electric vehicles around the battery, Bentley still wants to retain its iconic brand DNA and style. Therefore, it will try to create a battery that meets the needs of the car so that the exterior and interior features can still be preserved.

BEST LUXURY CARS

Bentley has always stated that it wants to make the best luxury cars and its mission for the Bentley electric is no different. It now wants to produce the most luxurious Bentley EVs for its customers. Bentley is hoping to set a benchmark in the work of auto sustainability at every level of manufacture. The company has already become carbon neutral and it is hoping that the end product will have some relevance in eco-preservation. However, it must be remembered that other luxury car makers also have the same goals and have already invested in EVs for the future.
