The past two years have been a period of uncertainty for many businesses, including car manufacturers. With delays in the supply chain and Covid-19 workers being forced to be isolated, there was also a massive shortage in labor. Almost every car manufacturer has had delays in the production of cars, and this has, consequently, also affected sales and profits. One car manufacturer, however, has avoided the turbulence in the economy over the past two years. Bentley just released its financial performance in 2021 and it has been one of the best years on record. Bentley hits record as the company headquarters in Crewe, England just posted a record turnover of $2.95 billion for 2021, which was up from $2.11 billion the previous year. At the same time, the number of Bentley sales increased from 11,206 in 2020 to 14,659 in 2021. Over the same period, Bentley’s operations profits increased from $389m to $410m.

WHY HAS BENTLEY BEEN SO SUCCESSFUL DESPITE THE ADVERSE ECONOMIC ENVIRONMENT?

Bentley hits record sales! Bentley states that the reasons for its success in the high numbers of cars sold are two-fold: first, they offered a mix of models dominated by Mulliner, Speed, and the hybrid models. Second, every buyer was offered the maximum personalization possible.

CEO MAKES STATEMENT

Adrian Hallmark Chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors stated, “They represent a major achievement for everybody involved at Bentley Motors, as we push forward with our Beyond100 program to reinvent our entire product range in the build-up to carbon neutrality by 2030.”

BRAND STRENGTH AND CUSTOMER LOYALTY

However, most would agree that other reasons for Bentley’s success have included its brand strength and reliability backed by superior customer service. Between the gasoline and EV Bentley, the highest Bentley sales were recorded for the hybrid models, like the Bentayga. This is partly due to the €3bn investment that Bentley has made in the Crewe factory to manufacture luxury green vehicles, which are now solidly in demand.

ELECTRIC VEHICLES

For Bentley, there are plans to launch a totally electric vehicle between 2025 to 2030. The “Five-in-Five” plan outlined by the Chairman as part of its Beyond100 strategy will also include a £2.5bn investment in “sustainability” over the next decade that will include increasing more onsite energy production at its facility, producing electric vehicles, and installing another 10,000 solar panels, which now stands at 30,000.

Despite a hefty base price of a single luxury car of $165K, Bentleys are in demand. The Bentley sales numbers show that the company must be doing many things right because Bentley hits record number of cars sold.
