Will Bentley soon have an electric flagship in the form of a Mulsanne? We know something electric is coming, and rumor has it that it may be the ultra sleek Mulsanne. Competition for electric supercars is heating up and none might be better positioned than Bentley to realize this. A Bentley electric car would be the height of both futuristic performance and luxury, and an electric Bentley Mulsanne engine would rival that of its current traditional one.
A Bentley Electric Car?
Today, fully electric powertrains are on the verge of delivering every single element you could want from any engine, electric or otherwise. The technology’s come a long way. One of the advantages is a lighter powertrain, which means improved performance and handling in some ways.
Mulsanne Being Considered
Bentley design director Stefan Sielaff recently told Auto Express that he envisions a car with room for four or five people and plenty of cargo space. He also suggested it would be a new model, and we do know that the Mulsanne is one option being considered to go all-electric.
A next-gen Mulsanne redesign would fulfill both of these qualifications, or this thinking may suggest these choices are still being ironed out and we’ll see multiple electric Bentley models in the coming years. One Bentley electric car model is an exciting enough prospect. More than one would be remarkable.
Hybrids Under Way
For now, all anyone knows is that plans are underway for one. The Bentley Bentayga plug-in hybrid already showed off to praise months ago at the Geneva Motor Show, and it looks like we’ll see hybrid models of other Bentley’s coming down the line.
Making a Statement
The Bentley Mulsanne engine is already a masterpiece, so no one should mind Bentley taking its time. They’ve proven they can get it right, and a move like this demands a resounding statement to be made. We anticipate one that will make jaws drop.
