In just a few short years, Bentley will celebrate its 100th birthday. The legendary automaker has spent the last century not only crafting superb vehicles – but building a reputation for power, precision, quality, integrity, and unsurpassed luxury. In honor of the upcoming milestone, here is a look at some historic Bentley cars that have made their stamp on the auto world:
1921: In this year, playboy and racing enthusiast Noel van Raalte took delivery of the very first production Bentley. It set him back a heft £1,050 (US$1359.75). To put that into perspective, a 1921-era #3 Chassis recently went for nearly $1 million at auction. Quality that lasts, indeed!
The Roaring 20’s. From 1921 to 1929, Bentley rolled out a 3-litre, 85 brake horsepower engine capable of (then) roaring fast 80 mile per hour speeds. The vehicle took the racing world by storm, setting speed and endurance records at Indianapolis, Le Mans, and other courses.
Luxury in Lean Years. During the 1930s, Bentley suffered financial setbacks and was purchased by Rolls Royce. During this period, they created the memorable “Silent Sports Car,” a 3.5-litre powerhouse that combined Bentley power with Rolls Royce luxury.
The 40’s and 50’s. In this stage of its evolution, Bentley began concentrating on high-performance touring cars. The R-Type Continental, for example, boosted top speed to 120 mph and become the standard for high-speed luxury. Towards, the end of the 1950s, the Bentley Continental Flying Spur made its debut.
Modern Masters. Each decade, from the 1960s to present, was marked with tremendous innovation and advancement. From increasing the capacity of the V8 to 6.75 litres and introducing the Mulsanne to integrating Volkswagen Group technology, each generation of Bentley cars holds true to the brand’s unique identity.
True quality and beauty are ageless. Bentley has proven this time and time again with exceptional vehicles. Visit Braman Bentley to experience the legendary performance and luxury.
