A Bigger Bentley SUV?

“Pure sports cars are not a topic for us now.” So says Bentley board member in charge of engineering, Werner Tietz. Despite lean, mean, media darling concept cars, like the EXP 10 Speed 6 and the all electric EXP12 Speed 6E, the iconic brand is more interested in moving towards more grand tourers and, it is hinted, perhaps even a larger Bentley SUV.

Tietz wants to include a GT in every segment, which he thinks is ripe with potential. SUVs are another market segment they are exploring.

Tietz teases the possibility of a vehicle larger than the Bentayga SUV. He says, “There is some potential when you look at SUVs… Bigger cars are an interesting avenue for Bentley – for now, we are not thinking about doing anything smaller, as that’s not what we’re about.” Truer words…. Bentley has never been known for a petite imprint.

For now, no plans have been finalized – or, at least, publicized – concerning a larger Bentley SUV. Tietz indicates that there will be more information when the brand celebrates its 100th year in July 2019.

We may also hear more about the automaker’s plans regarding electric vehicles. They are “investigating” several concepts and “promise” to deliver a plug-in version of every car on sale today by 2025. Quite an ambitious goal, and one we’re confident Bentley can achieve with its trademark grace and elegance.

Tietz reminds us of the meticulous planning involved with any model and its upgrades. Will a hybrid be an entirely new line or should it build off one of the current models? How much range should it offer? What design elements will mark it as a Bentley through and through. We’ll have to wait and see!
